Benfleet Camera Club - Studio Nights

slide show

For members wishing to improve their studio or portraiture skills the club holds regular studio nights on a Tuesday evening.

Professional studio lighting equipment is provided for these shoots with male, female models and the option of still life.

As the studio group had always been strong and played an important role in allowing attendees to learn the art of lighting and thereby produce quality images suitable to represent the club in external competitions it has been decided to make a number of improvements to these sessions to ensure the smooth/efficient running of the forthcoming seasons studio group sessions

A sample of our members work can be seen by clicking on the thumbnail above.

Studio Group 2012

o Professional and semi-professional models will be used.

o To prevent the model being overworked and to ensure each photographer is allowed quality one to one time with the model, each studio evening will be restricted to (10) photographers. The (10) photographers will be selected on a first come, first served basis. Names will be drawn out a hat on the night to establish the shooting order. Any photographer(s) not allocated a position on any particular evening will be given priority at the next scheduled evening.

o A charge of £7.50 will be levied to cover the cost of the hall rental plus the models fees (estimated at £40).

o There will be (2) lighting set ups on each studio group meeting and during the course of the season all types of lighting will be used (high key, low key, Rembrandt, Hollywood, Butterfly etc.).

o Each photographer will be allowed (4) minutes exclusively with the model at each of the (2) lighting set-ups. This time will controlled by the use of a timer.

o There will be a 'taking area' established and only the model and the photographer will be allowed in this area.

o The model will be expected to run through a series of poses to maximise the number of shots that can be taken during the allocated (4) minutes and also to help the less experienced photographer. The photographer will, of course, be allowed to ask the model to strike up any particular pose he wishes to photograph.

o The model will be asked to sign a model release form and this form will list all the photographers attending that session. The model forms will be maintained by Nick.

o The first studio night of the new season (13th September) will comprise of (2) parts and there will be no restrictions on the number of attendees. The first part of the evening will be to notify members of these proposals, to get members to 'sign off' to the general studio group rules and to plan for future sessions. The second part of the evening will be to demonstrate the setting up of a particular set of lights and to actually photograph a model.

o The dates which have been set for the (8) studio group nights are as follows:-

13th September 2011, 11th October 2011, 8th and 22nd November 2011, 24th January 2012, 14th February 2012, 27th March 2012, 24th April 2012.
